Connecticut – As fall and winter approached, the contractor overseeing the construction of a new university building recognized the urgent need for climate control. With concerns about worker safety, protecting building materials, and maintaining the construction schedule, colder weather posed significant risks, including missed deadlines. Heating the site was essential to mitigating these challenges.
Having worked with REIC Specialty before, the contractor was confident that their needs would be met with a single phone call. Following the call, REIC Specialty scheduled a job site walkthrough to evaluate the project’s size, the number of floors, and other specific goals. Factors such as fuel availability, equipment footprint, and heating requirements were also discussed. Trusting REIC Specialty’s proven track record, the contractor agreed to their recommendations without hesitation.
The rental heating plan was tailored to manage the climate across several building floors simultaneously, ensuring a stable interior environment. This was critical to protect both workers and building materials, as well as to facilitate the installation of finished products. A major focus was on drywall installation—specifically, ensuring that taping, mudding, and plastering could proceed without delays. These processes directly impacted subsequent tasks such as wood trim installation and painting. The proposed heating solution kept the construction schedule on track and minimized the interior equipment footprint. All units were powered by natural gas, the contractor’s preferred fuel source.
The heating units were delivered, placed, and operational by early November, just as cold weather arrived in Connecticut. Most heaters were positioned outside the building, with temporary ducting bringing warm air inside. The heat was distributed across the floors and other areas using a temporary poly-ducting system. The heating setup will remain in operation from November through early in the new year, ensuring a stable climate for interior finishing work to be completed on schedule.
