Multi-Year Dam Construction Project Relied On Cahill For Heating And Climate Control, Year After Year

Fort St. John, British Columbia – Constructing a dam with more than two million cubic meters of concrete requires a massive effort of manpower and equipment. Year after year as the project continued, Cahill became more essential to the success of this project than ever imagined.

Proving the Impact of the Jet Heaters

At the outset of this project, Cahill delivered two rental Jet Heaters to assist in the construction effort. These heaters were just a few pieces of rental equipment on site, including other types of heaters. Heading into the next winter, the lead contractors on the project chose to add more of the Jet Heaters, replacing some other heaters. Now, there were 17 Jet Heaters on site, and things were only beginning. Considering the size of this project, heating was needed during concrete pours, the curing process, for ground thawing and of course, to provide safe working conditions for employees in the winter cold

Technology and Service Matters

With the two winter seasons completed successfully, the contractors for this project witnessed the power of the Jet Heaters, including the massive fuel savings compared to traditional heaters. Additionally, the level of service and response that the Cahill team provided was enough to earn the trust of the team building the dam. It was time to rely on Cahill for heating across several areas of the project. The Jet Heaters were a popular choice but additional products by Cahill were called into use. Flameless heaters were used, as were several ground thaw/glycol units.

Seven Years and a Successful Build

Considering the vast landscape of building a dam of this size, not to mention the quantity of concrete poured, heat was a critical element, especially when trying to work during winter months in northern Canada. As a result of Cahill’s level of service, the heating solutions provided, and the overall success of construction during the first few years, Cahill ultimately had over 170 pieces of equipment on rent at one point. The heaters were essential to the project’s success, but Cahill emerged as a trusted partner to the construction team over a seven-year period. Two Jet Heaters led to a successful and lengthy partnership.
